Everything a music podcast should be.
Wherever Stephen Hill goes, I go. The Metal Hammer Podcast, the other one and now Riot Act, I've been listening to Steve rant, rave and recommend for 10 years now. Both he and Remfry are funny, laid back, informed, articulate and dedicated to bringing fantastic music to the masses. Throughout the time I've listened to Riot Act, I've discovered a tonne of amazing bads - Black Peaks, Brutus, Oathbreaker, Ithaca, The Menzingers and more. Remfry and Steve frequently disagree on topics big and small which is interesting and I believe necessary for a proper critique service. The only negative I would add is that Remfry rates things quite harshly (as of late, at least). Trivium, The Black Dahlia Murder etc are almost cast aside for minor points (sticking to a formula in the case of the latter and "not having an identity" in the case of the latter. Not everything has to be a 10/10 classic and there's nothing wrong with something being relatively simple compared to a progressive/post-rock artist. It can grow quite tiresome hearing Remfry call out other publications like Metal Hammer and Kerrang! for giving great, if not groundbreaking albums solid scores like 8/10. Anyway, that's only a very minor quibble. If you're at all interested in alternative music including indie, rock, metal and hardcore - you need to listen to Riot Act!Read full review »

I’m writing this review in the hopes that the creators get wind of the numerous mistakes and assumptions they’ve made in this episode. So far I’m about 10 minutes in and the amount of incorrect things shared is quite glaring: *The songs did not originate from jam sessions. Omar was quite...Read full review »

Seriously lads, it’s been 2 years, and they haven’t mentioned you once..... Time to move on..... (Edit: Glad to see Steve can take a piece constructive criticism, from a month ago, like an adult 😉).
