The government has announced a Royal Commission of Inquiry into its Covid pandemic response. It will look at the laws and decision-making that drove the government's pandemic response - and the impacts that had on New Zealanders and on the economy. Australian-based epidemiologist Professor Tony Blakely will head the inquiry, which is also aimed at preparing the country for a future epidemic. Professor Blakely will be joined by former Cabinet Minister Hekia Parata and former Treasury Secretary John Whitehead. The Prime Minister says the inquiry will be wide ranging.
