Are you, the vehicle owner, the reason your vehicle is in good or bad condition? The buck stops where? Are you doing enough to take care of your vehicle to keep it safe and reliable? Ron starts this episode talking about problems caused by not taking care of a vehicle. He describes a road situation he came across one Saturday morning where a newer Cadillac was driving on a flat tire, ruining the rim along with the suspension, maybe, escorted by the police? A strange one indeed! He then take a call from Paul in VA; he has a 95 Ford Bronco with a noise near the back of the engine that no one car properly diagnose. Ron sets him on the path for a correct diagnosis. The Car Dr then takes a call from a listener with questions about his 2015 Nissan Rogue asking Ron’s opinion on an aftermarket maintenance warranty policy. Ron helps us all understand if there is value in the deal by breaking down the numbers to see if any of it makes sense. HIs next up is a little vague; the caller is not sure if its an 84 or 85 Dodge truck that starts and runs for about 15 minutes, then dies. Ron listens to the caller and then explains how perhaps the environment, down the beach, may have something to do with the problem. In any regard Ron helps us all understand how to approach it with basis engine diagnostics. He rounds out the hour answering an email on an older Jeep Wrangler & its owner who wants to change out the differentials to something better. He ends the hour talking about some of the events in the shop of the past week. The life of an auto mechanic!

Talking To The Younger Mechanics! Ron starts this episode saying that someone asked him this week if he would do it all over again, and gives you his answer. He talks about what it takes to be successful in auto repair from his perspective, based on his experiences. He also recounts a conversation this week in the shop with a GM master technician. The young tech is doing 2 -3 engine swaps a week at his dealership due to problems GM is having with their V8 engines in certain model SUV's and Trucks. Ron opens the phones this hour with a call on a 98 Town and Country that dies after a restart . Its been 2 years and the owner is afraid to drive it but no one can offer him a diagnosis. Well no one but Ron! The Car Doctor gets the caller on the path to success walking him thru some basic and not so basic diagnosis. His next caller is from CT about a 2022 Chevy Malibu; questions range from problems with the turbocharger bypass solenoid to a problem with fuel spitting out while fueling up : Ron's last call of the hour comes from Hawaii; Anne Marie is having problems with a 24 Hyundai Santa Cruz that is rarely used. The car is parked most of the time because it is in at a home rented for vacationers. The concern is how to keep the battery from running itself down sits it sits for long periods of time. No sweat; Ron Ananian to the rescue! The Car Dr closes out hour taking us "In The Shop" talking about an 08 GMC Canyon that needed extensive repairs this week, and how it was almost held up over an ambient air temp sensor.

Ron welcomes back Paul Eisenstein of The Detroit Bureau to do a deep dive into the Takata air bag recall. A recall so large at the time 10 years later we are still hearing about it in the present day too! Afterwards, The Car Doctor's first call comes from Carol in Long Island, NY with questions about tire valve stem replacement on her 2010 Mazda. She has several questions on how to proceed and is a little confused but Ron helps her understand the basics providing step by step guidance on getting it repaired properly. The Car Dr closes it out today covering a letter from Tony in Illinois with an article attached from The Chicago Tribune. The article relates a story of failed auto repair prompting the writer to discuss how mechanics of today are not being taught to use their God given sense of smell. sight, touch and feel to repair cars but they are (incorrectly according to the article) always counting on the cars computer to self diagnose. In other words; no codes? No problem or help possible! Wrong Ron points out and shows us, well, tells us how it works in his shop. Tune in to hear!

CapitalTruck ,

My source of guidance for all car stuff

I do most of my own car repairs, this is both out of necessity and choice. I am perpetually poor and I like to make sure the job is done right. Ron is extremely accessible and provides the amount of guidance and pep talk that I need to tackle these automotive tasks in my driveway. As far as I can tell this is the only car show whose host actively operates their own auto repair business and STILL WORKS ON CARS for a living.

Wombatair ,

Aircraft Mechanic Instructors listen too

Great show very informative, positive view point automotive maintenance. Great trade & skill information that applies to aviation, I use a lot of Ron’s information as an aviation mechanic instructor for my students. Especially troubleshooting skills and attitude and approach to troubleshooting.

Groucho the man ,
