“Essential listening each week - it would be great if there could be time dedicated to Harlequins win and the reasons behind it. I am constantly hearing that England or the Lions should be more like Harlequins with the inference that they just throw the ball about a bit.
This is highly reductive as to be able to score tries late in extra time or at the end of matches seemingly from nothing is down to:
- incredible fitness
- player accountability
- trust in each others ability
- ability to execute under pressure / extreme fatigue
- enjoyment of the game
I agree that England could benefit from playing like Harlequins as they currently have fitness covered but a deficit in the other points. Harlequins performances in the second half of the season brought joy back to English rugby as did Bristol, Sale and Exeter in their own way. We rushed into the Lions and it would be great to dissect and relive what was the best consecutive weekends of premiership rugby ever!”
