Listen now
Description
In this episode, we provide tips for achieving an injury free and productive training cycle.  Now that races are returning this fall, runners are eager to jump back into training.  Before doing so, check out our tips to ensure a healthy, happy, and productive training cycle.   Following our conversation, we welcomed, for second time to the show, Heather Hausenblas, PhD.  Dr. Hausenblas, who was our guest on Episode 61 during which we discussed exercise addiction, is back on the show to discuss the  believes we can ALL (even athletes) make small changes in our daily routines and behaviors to optimize our health.  Dr. Hausenblas recently started a company called Healthy Moves Journaling, whose mission is to improve people’s health and wellness through science-based journaling. The first journal is to get people more active and it is based on the latest 24 hour movement guidelines. These guidelines state that all our movements each day count towards our health – not just the time we spend at the gym. The four “S’s” of daily movement – Standing, Stepping, Sweating, and Sleeping-- are the foundation for a healthy lifestyle, and even runners could use some improvement!  The journal can be found online here:  https://healthymovesjournaling.com/journals/. Dr. Hausenblas is a health psychology expert, award winning researcher, and author. Dr. Hausenblas is the co-author of six books, and she has published over 100 scientific journal articles related to health, sport, and wellness. She has been recognized for her research, and she has been the recipient of several awards including the Sport Science Award of the International Olympic Committee for her research on social determinants on physical activity. Dr. Hausenblas is an advocate for improving people’s health and she currently serves as the Vice-Chair for the Mayor’s Council on Fitness and Well-being for the City of Jacksonville and is a member of the Humana Bold Goal initiative, Movement for Change. She is a mom to three boys, and she enjoys exercising outdoors, spending time with her family and friends, and coaching and watching her sons play sports.
