Incredible
Hi, so. This is very important to me. Growing up, a sequence of events made me very afeared of hospitals and medicine. My uncle got bone cancer, and ended up in hospice. I watched him die very slowly, and I loved him very much. I was young and took this in on a deep, deep level. My grandfather had a brain tumor, which was removed, but he then had a stroke. He was in a coma and then in rehabilitation for the last two years of his life, before he finally died of pneumonia. All of these things happend before I turned 15. I have lived a lot of my life terrified of sickness, and as an unofortunate result, of medicine as well. Hypochondria to the maxxx, believe it. Why is this a 5 star review, you might ask at this point? It's becuase most of the time, I like to pretend I am a person sack filled with sand, and not organs and goo. I go to the doctor because I am terrified of sickness and death. But this? This podcast? It helped make the body knowable to me. It helped me learn that we've been learning about it for a long time. Not getting it right, but always trying. It's also hilarious. Justin and Sydnee are wonderful and very, very, deeply funny people. They have also helped me reckon with my mortality and corporeality more than anything else in my life. I can't make this promise to you, but it did work for me. Beyond being entertainment, this podcast was a great boon to me. I am less frightened and more present for the people I care about. I can do more for the world, which is important because the world needs all the help it can get. Thank you, oldest brother Justin McElroy. Thank you, Dr. Sydnee McElroy. You've made a wonderful wonderful thing. If you still read all of these reviews, which WHY SHOULD YOU, please know you made my life easier and better in a very real way. You helped me. And I will always be grateful for it. JoelRead full review »

Seriously, guys. I went through the not-as-intuitive-as-it-should-be process of writing a podcast review on iTunes to tell you how much I love this podcast. I'm a medievalist/library scientist with no medical knowledge whatsoever, and I find this podcast interesting from a historical...Read full review »
