A spotlight on incredible bravery

This is a dramatization about the scientists who guarded the Insitute of Plant Industry seed bank during the 2 year long siege of Leningrad. Overall, 12 scientists died by starvation or disease, while preserving edible seeds for future generations. This adaptation focuses on 4 composite characters, trying to survive the paranoia of war and political purges, with their rapidly diminishing resources and strength. Artistically, the show pulls a genius move by weaving the past together with the present pandemic timeline, when so much that was taken for granted has given way to uncertainty, giving the show a propulsive rhythm. What bravery! What sacrifice!
