Infuriating, Informative, Necessary — Listen
Well-crafted, thoroughly researched, and thoughtfully reported. Mandatory listening if you are considering sending your child to youth treatment center. Sent Away reveals an industry built that lacks ethics, theoretical know-how, psychological grounding, and until this last year, any kind of regulation or oversight. Equally as disturbing is the industry’s failure to pay for educated or trained staff. Instead, these centers are run with unqualified people who operate from a punitive instead of psychological mindset. Treating psychologically dysregulated teens should not be done by profit-seeking, psychologically-illiterate business owners.

A very well done podcast that held my attention the whole time. I’m so grateful these stories are finally being told. I was in a program in Spanish Fork, UT when I was a teen and I can say these stories are real and true. Keep up the good work!
