More Nuance, Please
I used to really like this podcast and, while I still listen to it every Monday, I feel like the conversations increasingly lack nuance and feel very defensive when involving topics that may undermine Zara and Michelle's personal views and lifestyles. For example, the conversation abut compassion fatigue and their stating that the environment isn't really high on their list of priorities felt very tone deaf for me. While they stated that they acknowledge that such a viewpoint came from a position of privilege, they don't seem to interrogate that privilege beyond acknowledging it. And I think that has become my main issue with this podcast: while it's all very well and good to acknowledge privilege, acknowedging it doesn't really account for anything unless you change your behaviour and mindset after acknowledging privilege. I'll continue to listen to the podcast, but it will be with critical ears.Read full review »
