Strayed way too far from what made this great
This is my first review of any podcast and it took me awhile to get the balls to put this in writing. I went onto the comments section to see if anyone else felt the same way and I noticed a few did so I figure why not? Take the following as a data point. You get enough of these points and you count them as a trend. I’ve only got three issues. HOSTS- I really really used to enjoy this podcast when Alex M. and Mike M. were hosting. The questions were short, insightful and elicited excellent conversation. Plus Mike knew when to shut up and when to talk and Alex was a perfect ‘everyman’ who infused a lot of relatedness to the listeners. Doug has always been a really smart guy and has typically asked excellent questions but lately the hosts have made this show a free for all with no theme, no direction and insane tangents that make me want to turn it off. Recently I listened to an episode that I promptly turned off where Anders said to a guest there was no structure to the show. I honestly used to eagerly look forward to your new episodes through I’d say 2017 or 2018. Now you have Mike Boyle or Mat Fraser on and I can’t even make it through the episode because the hosts meander and eat up air time talking about their own stuff and overpowering the guest. Relatedly, Fischer is very obsessed with himself for better or for worse. I’ve heard about his knee and his childhood dreams more than I’d care too. If that’s your cup of tea awesome but not really mine. I cannot bring myself to listen to him anymore. Anyway, I just would like to see the show return to a focus on the personalities being interviewed and not a mouthpiece for the hosts. ADs- I have a thirty min commute to work in the mornings. Multiple times I’ve made it halfway or more to my office before I got to the show because the ads eat up so much time. It’s def got to the point I just stopped listening or I’ll switch to something else. I’d advise listening to the Dollop to see a superior way (i.e. use humor) to infuse ads into a podcast. THEMEs- lately it’s been ok but for a while in 2018 the themes of the show were going bizarre. The bread and butter of the fitness world are people who have non fitness goals and jobs. I just want to listen to cool people talk about how and why they’re successful, hear about injury prevention and improve my workout programs and exercises. Some of the super niche themes are really really blah. It’s really sad to me because I spent literally years listening to you all but I think I’m done. I’m giving three stars out of respect to the original hosts and the fact that mike Bledsoe got Julien P. on again recently but I want to give 1-2.
