Good subject, mediocre teacher
I simultaneously love that MIT makes these lectures available and hate that David Jerison is the one they decided to film. He often leaves key steps out of fundamental proofs. He has a tendency to take a basically simple concept and introduce confusion simply by not bothering to explain key steps in a proof. He’s kind of a crappy communicator, and I’m amazed they let him be the person who exposes students to their first taste of higher math. This kind of teacher can turn a student off of a subject for life.
