Kaiser's love of China is severely clouding his judgement
I was a super-fan of this podcast for 5+ years, but it has become increasingly clear by now that Kaiser has a delusional mindset where he is constantly bending over backwards to defend the Chinese government when they are increasingly indefensible. Case in point - the way that Kaiser constantly downplays the internment in concentration camps of perhaps 1 million or more Uyghurs just makes my blood boil. This is a genuine human rights emergency that is happening before the eyes of the world, and that the hosts of the most popular China-related podcast are not trumpeting this fact at every opportunity is DOWNRIGHT CRIMINAL. I suppose the 'beginning of the end' for me started way back in 2015, when they were discussing the toxic insecure nationalism that is pervasive in China, and Kaiser made some comment about "Oh, I think now that they've had that big military parade this won't be a problem anymore". What??? In my entire time immersed in the China-watching community I don't think I've ever heard such a mind-bogglingly naive statement. Thankfully Jeremy immediately shot back "I don't agree with you AT ALL", but the damage to the show's credibility was already done. I remember that exchange still today, clear as a bell, becuase it is just so emblematic of the way that people like Kaiser, who have invested so much of their lives and careers in China, are simply unwilling to see the truth. Kaiser even openly admitted on Twitter once that he doesn't want to invite guests like former Mexican ambasasdor Jorge Guajardo becuase they aren't "pro-China" enough. Come on. If I want "pro-China" commentary I'll stick with People's Daily.Read full review »

Hands down the best source for learning more about China, whether you are an expert or have a casual interest. Great interviews and analysis, great job at balancing different views. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

This podcast is one of the few places you can get well-reasoned and well-researched opinions about China. They go in depth in a format that the usual click-bait article on China cannot. Very informative

I wish I had a podcast like this to understand what is going on in the U.S. Jeremy and Kaiser have hit on a great formula to keep us informed, give us a better understanding of China and entertain us. You never know what you will hear about next, but it is all interesting. Keep up the good...Read full review »
