“Edit: “Somethin Else productions” made this show when it was on the BBC and continue to make it now. It’s owned by Sony. Therefore any issues now are purposeful choices by the production company.

So I gave it a chance. Under the BBC banner, this was one of - if not the - leading podcast. It has almost completely lost its charm and the pure marketeer might enjoy it, but hearing Kermode and Mayo reading out paid adverts for VPN providers and podcasts pushes people away. Paying for a few months for the premium version via their website before posting this, I realised that I zone out while listening because the uncontracted innocent ‘banter’ is gone. Everything is contractual, everything is money, things mentioned throughout the show might be product placement or an advert - one just doesn’t know anymore. This podcast moving away from the BBC shows that the unique BBC offering of unbiased content without adverts is worth every penny of the license fee. If you don’t believe me, go listen to the BBC version of the show - still available - and you can quickly tell that the new clunky format, rather expensive tiers (online film companies offer an entire range of shows/films for a similar price per month in some packages) for a single show; and you’ll soon realise that as an ex-LTL (long term listener!) that the commercialisation of Kermode&Mayo has destroyed the once golden goose. It appears they chose this migration too, due to pettiness regarding publishing of BBC salaries. If I don’t know what is a subtle advert and what isn’t, it is almost impossible to enjoy the show anymore. I’m really disappointed and sad, because it seems they’ve sold out. “The magic” is gone.”
