“I used to enjoy the BBC incarnation of Kermode and Mayo. Then they jumped ship so that they could fatten their bank accounts and deliver a programme that’s essentially similar, but not as good. As time goes on, I get more and more irritated by their self conceit and by Kermode’s insistence that only he has the truth on all matters of politics and morality. Like him, I sit to the left of centre politically, but even when I agree with him, Kermode’s arrogance and lack of willingness to try to understand alternative views irritates me intensely. When talking about film, Kermode is interesting, but I think I’ve reached the point where I can listen no longer.”
