“This show really isn’t what it used to be on the BBC or even in the initial months of their move. I was a “vanguardista” but got disillusioned with the increasingly small amount of free content available to those who don’t subscribe. Not everyone can afford this much per month for a podcast. I work in the NHS and I know many of my more poorly paid colleagues couldn’t. It seems particularly cynical that the new version of the old “TV movie of the week”, which will be accessible to those who maybe can’t afford regular cinema visits, is in the paid for part of the show. I finally gave up my subscription, ironically might have kept it if more free content had been made available to those less financially secure. I found alternative wider free content from Empire podcast and Pilot TV podcast. I see now the subscription is up to £4.99. I still listen to the free bit of the show and enjoy Mark’s reviews of the very limited number of items covered. Like Mark, I was a youthful Trot, unlike him I don’t seem to have drifted as far right with ageing that I could be comfortable with this business model.”
