John lives underground
Listen now
Description
For the past 51 years, opal miner John Dunstan has lived in the small desert town of Coober Pedy. Coober Pedy is an eight-hour drive from the nearest city and boasts the largest opal mine in the world. To escape extreme desert temperatures, miners like John live in underground 'dugouts', or caves which are blasted out of the rocky hillsides. Somewhere Else talks to John about what it's like to live underground and if he ever gets claustrophobic. Read about John on Domain here.
