“This podcast has saved my apartment. I Kon Mari’d my stuff (or so I thought) back in 2015. When I found Spark Joy Podcast earlier this year (2018), I learned that I still had a long way to go, and that I had not followed instructions sincerely the first time around.
I put off going through papers, journals, photos and other sentimental items for a long time. Just thinking about confronting those categories used to stress me out.
Now, having heard almost every episode of Spark Joy podcast, my life is completely different. I have a better sense of what I need in my life and what is no longer supporting my values and vision for the future.
Listening to the paper episode of SJP about 30 times (no joke!), gave me the courage to throw out reams of unnecessary things from my files.
I am still working, to be sure, but feel so much more in touch with myself and harmonious with my belongings than I did when I first discovered Spark Joy. If I lived in NYC or Chicago, I would most definitely have hired the hosts to get me through the process (and saved a lot of time!).
2019 update: Family members have passed away recently and left me a lot of sentimental archival material as well as other items. I was charged with helping an elder family member to move out of the house she shared with her husband before he passed away.
Because of the skills I built through listening to Kristyn and Karin, I was able to support her as well as take on the archival project of 40 years of family letters.
