Episode 6: Ivan Rahman
Listen now
Description
In this episode of Spill It Tiffanie speaks with Ivan Rahman irl friend of the pod since their paths crossed in 2017 as they both worked in the education sector. Fast forward to now and Ivan has attended Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and Stanford Business School at the same time and is currently a Senior Associate at JP Morgan Chase.  During his continued learning and time at NYU it became clear to Ivan how bad black and brown people were being treated in society and wanted to be apart of change. This led him to start his career post-graduation in non-profits as a community organizer working with Americorps helping members of east New York gain employment, and then after receiving his Master's joining Teach for America working at one of the most underserved schools in NYC serving low-income students of color. After his time working in the social sector, Ivan noticed something. He was burnt out, being paid well below what he knew he was worth and mad. For Ivan, it didn't make sense that because he cared about others and wanted to help low-income people of color shouldn't mean he wouldn't earn a decent wage or living a balanced life. That's when he decided to pivot into the private sector and experienced the world of business school and the people who inhabit it. Saying it was a culture shock would be an understatement. Ivan and Tiffanie touch on capitalism, nepotism, racism, and classism and get to have the conversations that Spill It is meant to evoke. You don't want to miss this episode as Ivan drops some great gems that are incredibly relevant in 2021.
