This podcast started out interesting and brought a lot of details to light I missed from the news. But it allowed a lot of conspiracy theories to be talked up and completely failed to approach the Russian side of things. Butina was accused of being a Russian spy and zero consideration was paid to...Read full review »

This is a really interesting and entertaining topic. However it feels incredibly one sided and sympathetic to the subject. Allows and engages with conspiracies and you would easily assume this was funded/supported by RT or other Russian ‘useful idiots’

After listening to the entire podcast I got the distinct impression that the host was approaching the Butina supporters with a largely uncritical disposition. She spends a large amount of time humanizing the the conservative actors in this story (which is great) but skips past information that...Read full review »

Great job talking a complex story and distilling it into a very entertaining format.

Thank you for bringing this into the foreground for us. I knew nothing about the enigmatic Maria before this podcast. I appreciate you shedding light on an interesting and recent part of our complex history.

This was a somewhat entertaining podcast, but could have probably been presented in a 1 or 2 episode short series. Really not that much here, I get the picture about Patrick pretty quick for example, I don’t need 3 hours of him saying the same thing 100 different ways. All in all probably...Read full review »

The show spends eight hours asking you to believe a huge group and of known con-artists and liars (including a women who currently works for the Russian propaganda arm, a fired FBI agent and a prominent QAnonist) without ever once questioning their claims, fact checking them or providing any...Read full review »

Too many parallel events in today’s woke world to discount everything about this story.

There are so many bad reviews and I do not understand why. Half the people say it’s right-wing “Q anon conspiracy theories”, the other half hate it for being in league with the “Russian Hoax”. I found it supremely interesting. Like all Americans I was familiar with the basic timelines and such,...Read full review »

The podcast host, Celia Aniskovich, states at the end of each podcast that this is “a series about deception, appearances and the consequences of trusting the wrong person.” AND THEN, IN EPISODE #2, SHE USES DISGRACED FORMER FBI AGENT PETER STROZK AS A SOURCE - THE SAME PETER STROZK WHO WAS FIRED...Read full review »

Interesting story, but the narrator’s intonation was incredibly repetitive and therefore really distracting.

Entertaining but there’s minimal fact checking going on here. Way too credulous with respect to interview subjects. Maria’s treatment, in particular, is soft-handed in the extreme. Ordinary events - questioning by Intelligence Committee - are recharacterized as brutal slogs because they last 7...Read full review »

It’s like listening to the MyPillow Guy espouse conspiracy theories for 6 hours. I kept listening thinking “ok they are just giving background on Maria’s garbage alibi” assuming the actual story was coming. Nope. Just one-sided Trumpy/NRA nonsense. I’m honestly shocked that it is from Wondery and...Read full review »

This was intriguing. I wanted to hear the next part after each episode ended! It didn’t give a bend either way politically, it just was Celia’s thoughts and investigation. It was edited well and the music fit perfectly. My heart goes out to Maria. I hope through all she went through, she came to...Read full review »

To be fair I listened to the whole thing and the host’s access to Butina is fascinating. Be aware that the host, Celia, is not a journalist and her reporting of this story is HIGHLY irresponsible. People like Patrick Byrne, who is an out-of-his-mind fantasist are treated like trusted sources....Read full review »

She may not have been a spy, but she def was sent to the US for political purposes, on behalf of Russia!

The host brings a documentary film maker’s perspective to this story. If you are coming here for an easy answer to the question “ Was Maria a spy?” Then you will be disappointed. This story is complex. Maria is complex. Most media stories are simplified by editors who remove unreliable narrators....Read full review »

American “intellectuals”/“journalists” giggling like school children is embarrassing. Guest did make the best point of the whole series...”is Maria Butina a spy?” “Maria Butina was not charged with espionage.” Host proceeds to mark dumb grunt noise lol.

I thought overall this was interesting to listen to to learn more about the general topic. However, for a podcast, a journalist, and a fact checker I was sorely disappointed. Thematically, this podcast had tons of potential. About the election being stolen from Trump. It’s sad that because Trump was mean to the media that they railroaded the election to get him out of office. The truth will come out and we need to put the media on trial for insurrection and sedition.
