“Depends on what you want? I like to learn things every day in my life. I also like witty humour thrown in. Simon Jordan is the best for me. Darragh MacAntony is up there also. Both of these two I find I always learn something new when it comes to football operations, understanding new ideas or just simply balance. When it comes to just tactics I like Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher. Could listen to them all day on that subject. Now we come to this lot… yes Gary is on the show as is Jamie but it’s limited what they can say because they have to share the room with others. And those others are like banging your head against a wall. Jill has zero idea about football beyond the years she played. No idea about the basic things. It’s like when your daughter says it’s not fair that the other sides players are taller, they should all be the same height… that’s the level from her. Ian speaks like he’s been hitting the bottle every day. Mumbling. Zero insight. Just repeats himself 4 times before he manages to say what he wanted to say… and when he says it? It’s a question a 6 year old would ask. Doesn’t give you any insight, he and Jill just ask questions - which is okay if they were insightful - but they are questions about feelings and emotions. Waste of time. That’s the gravy on the side, not the meat and potatoes on the plate type of questions. Roy has become a parody of himself. You can see why he’s not a manager. He’s not a deep thinker of the game. Kicking a bag of air around, sorry, a football, doesn’t mean you have the tactical intelligence nor does it mean you can reverse engineer styles and plays to explain it to the non initiated. The true genius in someone is when they can explain extremely complicated matters to a lay. Thomas Sowell is one such genius. Football isn’t highly strung economics that is like trying to understand a spiders web. It’s a relatively simple aspect to life. And yet there are finer details that matter and what separates good from bad. But you’ll never get to understand those finer details from Roy or Ian and certainly not Jill. They might as well not even be there because they take up valuable air time. Roy is funny in parts; like I said, a parody of himself. But there is only so many times you can hear “do your job” “stick to football” before you have heard it all before. Life is about learning and after 20+ episodes (a fair crack of the whip) I don’t feel like I’ve learned anything about a game that is relatively simple. All that said, if you don’t have any wonder about you and you’re that simple sort of chap, or 12 years of age, then you’ll probably love it! If you’re like me and you want more than just repeating rhetoric then maybe not. Many better podcasts out there in my opinion. Only so many hours in the day.”
