Banal, a bit like pop culture itself
How is a show about “pop culture” a good use of ABC resources when commercial media already provides endless vapid commentary on itself? The presenters come across as over-caffeinated culture studies students who missed the lectures on Gramsci and hegemony and have mistakenly come to believe that tweeting about tv dating shows can be construed as intellectual critique. The banality of the analysis is surpassed only by the hyperactive self regard of the presenters whose earnest flattery of each other risks nervous exhaustion for them and their audience.

Beverley and Ben are a glorious listen. It’s pop-culture with laughs, heart and depth. I rarely miss an episode.

Brilliant mix of pop culture and politics and a show I always walk away from with something new to watch or listen to.
