The Kate Cebrano episode was superlative. Entertaining, enlightening & most of all fun. Brilliant.

Loving this show. Just listened to one of Jane Tara’s episodes, it was an incredibly engaging conversation. Wish it was twice as long!

Really enjoying these podcasts … Cheryl is fabulous at engaging the author to talk about the “how - what - why - when” that bought the book into the world …

I haven’t listened for a while but over the summer have had this series on automatic download. I absolutely love listening. They expose authors in a way that has made me smile, laugh out loud and at times cry. Cheryl Akle has a deep understanding of 'author' and really engages them to...Read full review »

That’s exactly what I like about the podcast, Cheryl’s life experience interwoven with the author’s story. Great listening.

Cheryl Arkle uses this pod to talk about herself. All the time. I mean why invite interesting guests when you really just want to just talk about yourself? Can you please get someone else to do this show? We’ve heard enough about your dull life. We want to hear from the writers.

The host just kept rail roading Paddy Manning with her own agenda and would not let him speak about his book. Paddy bluntly said a number of times he had written a biography but the host returned again and again to an anti Murdoch rant.

Lots of great recommendations, guests, book chat. Love listening and Cheryl is just lovely and bubbly.

I listen to many literature-related podcasts and this is by far my favourite one. Cheryl has a unique way of chatting with authors about their books, delving into the what the book's about and – as the podcast name suggests – the story behind it. On the whole, it's endearing and insightful.Read full review »

I can’t get enough of this podcast. Thanks so much for showcasing so many Australian authors. I love hearing “the stories behind the story” and discovering each author’s unique process. Fascinating listening!

This is my absolute go-to podcast for my morning walks! Cheryl has a way of drawing out the “story behind the stories” in a way that is so respectful yet goes deep. Such a fabulously diverse array of interviews! Love this! Julietta Henderson

Cheryl and Jane are big supporters of writers and it’s great to hear more from those writers on what has inspired and moved them to tell their stories.

Stumbled across this podcast, and listened to Kerry Tuckers episode. I must say, I’ve never felt so uncomfortable after finishing a podcast!! I stumbled across this podcast 2 years ago and got hooked on it. I like the quick, casual and mixed format. We learn a bit about the author, a bit about the book, a bit about its background and a bit about Cheryl which is fun. These podcasts introduce to me the best authors read in Australia and...Read full review »

Ugh. Comes across so rude and presumptuous every time. Great book choices, terrible interviews.

Better Reading is the best podcast I listen to. Cheryl is fantastic at interviewing authors she makes you feel like you’re there with them. There are never any spoilers. Each day I check to see if there’s a new episode ready.

This podcast has introduced me to so many authors and books. Cheryl has a lovely interviewing style and I have found all the episodes so interesting, even when I thought the episode wouldn’t interest me. Love this podcast.

I am a lifelong Francophile having being brought up in Paris. I found this podcast to be dull and full of platitudes.

Never listened to an episode I didn’t like and always learn something. Gillian Trigg was a favourite and am enjoying her book now. The Kiley Reíd conversation could have been this month- so relevant still and acutely highlights how little is happening. Thank you - Clare

I had often enjoyed Cheryl’s rapport with her interviewees but I can’t believe how differently I feel now after Cheryl’s judgmental comment regarding teachers implying they were on the bottom of the Degree scale! Listening to her now is tainted and not so enjoyable. I keep thinking - Great way to...Read full review »

Cheryl interrupts her guests and dominates the conversation. She even had to be reminded by Carly Findlay to focus on her writing, not her disability. Such a shame, as the theme of the podcast is a great one, but it needs a more sensitive host.
funky_lem via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 08/08/20
I enjoyed the interviews and the very intimate setting but Cheryl's interviewing style was not for me. She talked too much of herself, not allowing the authors to talk and didn't do much research before the interviews. The poor interviewing was obvious. I didn't mind her political...Read full review »

I’ve very much enjoyed these podcasts and enjoy the author interviews, but thinking of unsubscribing. I’m actually left leaning, but finding Cheryl is becoming too much of a propagandist for her personal views.

Cheryl is the best, I love these podcasts, they are so real, so interesting and informative. Thank you so much for being a reality check in the insanity and despair of today’s politics and world.
