“An excellent podcast - I could listen to Manveen's dulcet tones for hours and hours!
Whilst getting behind the headlines is always done with great aplomb, I really enjoy the unexpected stories, too, such as the China one-child policy episode or the children who won't wake up. Today's Zuma episode was a great listen as I felt I finally understood a story I had whizzed past in the papers for a while now. The episodes on Covid-19, its mutations, vaccines and lockdown implications have been very informative and I find myself becoming something of a science pro - thank you, Tom Whipple!
David's a great presenter too - have a listen to his Cameron series if you haven't already. I always enjoy his pieces in the Times; he seems to be one of the few Times opinion writers who still manage to convince me on issues. I listen religiously to his The Briefing Room, which I highly recommend to other listeners.
My occasional annoyance with this podcast is technical: the editing on some of the episodes can be a bit unpolished but do persevere for the content. Perhaps the pandemic's shortened my fuse as I get rather annoyed with random guest presenters who don't have radioworthy voices or accents I can easily comprehend so I end up switiching off for those episodes. Having said that, the recent book review was good and should be done biannually.
