Police of public Opinion
Just finished listening to the podcast conversation with Angelo about PC culture. As a super huge fan of Angelo s work through the years but also aware and negatively impressed with the downfall of our industry from a creative, aspirational, life changing platform to it s reduction of that of a Marketing machine producing high priced hyped Apparel, introduced by “collage assistants” that puzzle and paste from insta feeds and pinterest boards, I salute you both for the courage to call it like it is.I m a associate Professor in a Fashion School and I teach more than 28 different nationalities and cultural backgrounds. We hold similar conversations in class because I believe in the power of debate.Or argument.Of the passion to believe and fight for your beliefs. Still there s the one thing I detest : Cliché, same narrative, copy cut opinion in value of baseless debate that might give you a couple of extra likes. It is our duty to empower the young. To lead them and allow them to make mistakes, to learn to discover regardless the discomfort, to have strong yet valid, fact proofed opinions. Most of all to understand that safety nets did not produce the timeless talents that they currently love : The Mc Queens, Gallianos, Gaultiers, Muglers , Westwoods etc. Your conversation was exactly the type of conversation we should keep on having. For those who do not understand it, it only means they have not reached the level they so desperately try to imitate by screaming and shouting for PC in every little corner of creativity. Quantitive economy is not sustainable in the long run and that s the reason for populism : if it s sells it s successful but it leads to more waste. So let s keep having the conversations and not blame the bright sun that sometimes burns the human skin.Let s preserve a productive dialogue and a balance to enjoy the benefits and collab to avoid those major burns. There s never been a better time to use our collective for the greater good that our physical and mental survival is dependent upon. And no place deserves it more than the industry where dreams become realities and people form communities, express themselves and make a strong statement for life.

As an 18 year old kid feverishly into fashion, I often find myself unsure of what voiced to listen to in the fashion world. After reading nearly every piece of literature about the designers I idolize all I can say is thank you Eugene. In a time in which kids my age do not care about history,...Read full review »
