From an intermediate Taylor fan to a hardcore Swiftie
Just like Devin, I’ve been listening to Taylor since 1989 came out and that’s when I started to become sort of a fan of her music. I didn’t dive much into the meaning of her songs and lyrics though, just bopped throughout them and became obsessed with her music videos (as any normal human being would). I would kind of stay updated on Taylor when the 2016 drama was going on, nothing too deep though, but when she came back from her hiatus with reputation and her full girl boss attitude I went “Oh. I want to know this woman’s story”, so I started to read deeper into her lyrics, details on the videos, more or less reading her professional trajectory and whatnot. Unfortunately, I didn’t take the time to let reputation itself grow on me, just the hits, and now that I look back, I don’t even know why. However, up to that point I could really say that I liked and admired Taylor as a person and artist, and even that I was a fan, I just hadn't been able to connect to her music as much. That is, until Lover came out and I loved 👏🏻every👏🏻song👏🏻in👏🏻the👏🏻album. THAT’S the point when I became, say, an advanced Taylor stan. Fast forward, folklore and evermore come out, I lose my mind, and just really really love her. (I’ll get to the podcast I promise) Anyway, as much as I was a fan of current Taylor, reputation and the albums preceding 1989 were somewhat blurry to me. Sure, Love Story, You Belong With Me, Mean, and some singles from Red I knew. And also Hey Stephen, which I was very proud by the way, but that’s how far I had gotten, really. And even with her re-release Fearless, I had not gone through it. UNTIL I FOUND THIS SPECTACULAR PODCAST. FANTASTIC. PHENOMENAL. BRILLIANT! All the good things in this world! Thanks to Gab and Devin, I’ve been going through Tay’s discography while simultaneously getting all the behind-the-lyrics goods and having a great time! It’s absolutely fantastic because I can feel I am on my way of become a true Swiftie, as when I listen to the songs now, I find the emotional connection that I was lacking before, and even have found my new favorite songs. Gab and Devin are outstanding in explaining each song, and it’s great to find that you can relate a song that came out 15 years ago to your life ~even now~ I enjoy how detailed the analyses are, how both of them give their opinions and takes on the songs and I absolutely love Gossip Gab! And my favorite thing is that you can tell they are having such a blast recording all of these, and somehow are able to create this special environment where you feel like you’re there with them having fun. So having said this, this is why I couldn’t help but share my Swiftie story in a super long review (sorry about that). So yeah, go listen to it! It’s fun, it’s great, it’s Gab and Dev! If you consider yourself a Swiftie, this is a must. If you don’t consider yourself to be one but you like Taylor in general, give it a shot! And if you just like some of her songs, then go ahead and listen to those episodes, you’ll fall in love with them all over again! And thanks Gab and Devin to take the time to do this, it really makes my day!Read full review »
