“I have no words for how much I love these podcasts. James & Roger Deakins have kindly provided access to a wealth of knowledge via their world-class collaborators.
(It doesn’t hurt that they have amazingly soothing voices too. 😛)
I was concerned it would be a lot of upper-echelon masters speaking poorly of the young and less experienced, but that’s not true at all.
So many of the esteemed interviewees came from impoverished and/or non-relevant backgrounds, made a ton of mistakes, and found themselves falling by happenstance into a vocation they loved.
The Team Deakins podcast is truly an encyclopaedia of film knowledge couched in a cocoon of modesty and presented in the most earnest & approachable manner.
(If I have one complaint, it would be this – I wish AJA would stop giving James such long scripts to read. 😝)
Please continue the excellent work of speaking to the best and brightest in filmmaking across all the various departments. You’re consciously or unconsciously building a precious repository of knowledge that will be referenced in years to come.
