“I’ve been listening to this podcast for over a year now and find the financial information generally helpful.
However, the exception, and it’s a big one, is the superannuation content of this podcast. The hosts, Owen and Kate, have at least two episodes dedicated to this topic, and by estimation, it’s time to bring in a third party expert to clear up the inaccuracies that both hosts have provided.
For example, both hosts have failed to emphasise the crystal clear early retirement benefits of superannuation accurately. Owen and Kate tend to brush it off as “something to provide an income at 67 or whenever.” The truth is that Australians can potentially kick back and start drawing from their super tax-free at either the early age 59 or 60, depending on their birthdate. That’s an enormous incentive to invest early into one’s super and let the compound dividends drive the train to an early retirement, instead of poking along and becoming yet another merger, heavily dependent pensioner. There are also a number of tax advantages to investing into super like super splitting, non-concessional pay-it forwards, super downsizer contributions, concessional catch-ups, governmental matching contributions etc etc….which are rarely emphasised on this podcast.
Guys, superannuation is the pet of the Australian government and always will be, so there needs to be a stronger encouragement to get on the train early and and contribute often. It’s where it’s at.”
