“The concepts are great. Teaching growth mindset, problem solving, and resilience through stories is brilliant. But I don’t need my five year old daughter to constantly hear stories about how everyone believes women can’t do anything and then a girl triumphs over those beliefs. I don’t want her to internalize the message that everyone believes you’ll fail but maybe you’ll succeed anyway if you have enough courage. I just want her to hear stories about regular girls accomplishing great things and to overcome self doubts. Also there’s a lot of catastrophic thinking modeled here. I’d rather Zara said things like “this is quite a challenge and I don’t know if I can handle it!” then “I give up! This is the worst day ever!” Also I understand that kids like bathroom humor but the barfing and just constant use of words like “disgusting” are unhelpful for sensitive kids.”
