Math Addiction
I just recently started listening to podcasts on my daily commute, and Build Math Minds is one of my favorites. I love how she always expresses the “why” behind needed mindset or instructional changes and gets me to evaluate how my practice is measuring up. A recent one (3/1/20) focused on the book, Choral Counting and Counting Collections. I think this book is an important read because it lets you know the importance of beginning and continuing both these things from pre-k through 5th grade. Too often, counting exercises or activities are seen as unnecessary after 1st or 2nd grade; a false belief that this book makes clear. As the Recovering Traditionalist has been known to say, “Number sense isn’t taught; it’s caught!”

I am so excited to be able to soak up some of Christina’s great insights as I get ready for work each morning. I love the online community that she’s built but this makes it even easier to glean great info in a convenient way!
