Listened to the entire podcast, start to finish. It’s an extraordinarily detailed and fascinating exploration into the lives and deaths of those that came before us, particularly those that helped shape and build the city we love and live in today. Have you considered more episodes in the future?...Read full review »

A lady handed me a card about the podcast today outside Central station. I listened to three episodes on the train ride home from work. So interesting, I’m hooked. Will be sharing with my colleagues at work tomorrow. Can’t wait to check out the exhibition

I was actually recommended to listen to this podcast by my history lecturer and I am glad that I did. I never knew that central station was once a cemetery. Whenever I do enter the station by train I always see the archways of the mortuary station and think how beautiful they are but I didn’t...Read full review »

A wonderful history of burials, deaths, burial practices of the Devonshire Cemetery also known as the Sandhills Cemetery, where Central Station is now located. All 9 episodes are excellent.

I’ve just binge-listened, unable to drag myself away. I feel part of all this as I worked for the City of Sydney during my career and knew a bit about it but I had no idea the old cemetery was so huge or such a problem. Give this a listen, you’ll never regret the time spent. Thanks to the State...Read full review »

A really interesting way to tell stories of life in Sydney in the early years with a bit of true crime thrown in. Particularly interesting if you are from Sydney but certainly not necessary to enjoy it. Good on our State Library for giving this to us.

I’m loving this podcast, it reveals a hidden history in Sydney that I think very few would know about. In future I’d love to see this perhaps expand out into some regional burial histories. For instance, Newcastle has some intriguing stories tucked away in it’s cemeteries, and I’d love to hear...Read full review »

Thank you for producing a really interesting discussion on how the site of Sydney has changed and how there was Indigenous and European interaction around what is now Central station. I particularly loved hearing Paul Irish as I really loved his book Hidden in plain view for its perspective.

Was not expecting it to be another excuse to whip europeans about our forefathers treatment of Aboriginals. Govt produced so should have expected it I guess. How about you tone down the “agenda” and concentrate on the historical facts in the next episodes.

My 3 x great grandparents were Irish Convicts sent out here as very young adults. Easy to listen to podcast! History and what it has to offer us today is amazing. From a family tree research enthusiast I find it fascinating that what a family must of gone through in those days to be told you have two months to exhume your loved ones body and move it!

Really interesting stuff. Sure, it features my wife and sure, I work at Sydney Trains (and love it), but this is a must for anyone interested in Sydney History, and/or trains, and/or just likes to learn fascinating things about Australia’s largest city! Easy to listen to.
