“I really wanted to enjoy this production, truly I did. Everything about 'The Cipher' falls perfectly into my favorite kind of adventure—just the right amount of mystery, action, humor and drama all wonderfully wrapped up with a stellar VO cast and a high production value. But whoever made the decision to use one of THE MOST PAINFUL FREQUENCIES as a plot device is just unthinkingly cruel to any listeners with sensitive ears. There are so many moments of vital information with that f***king high pitched noise in the background, turning the volume down just creates gaps in story. I made it through to the last episode, determined to finish, but had to give up 10 minutes in because it goes on for a FULL. MINUTE. Perhaps there’s a transcript online, but at this point I don’t even know if I have the heart to finish. My ears are still ringing with that evil, evil noise and I want to rip them out.
