Muddled Point of View with Ultimately Nothing New to Say
I kept waiting for this podcast to reveal its reason to exist. Ultimately, it never did. Kim Barker admits very early on that she started researching this case because she owed some newspapers some stories. The implication is that she ended up discovering much more meaningful reasons to continue pursuing the story. But, in reality, she never does; this podcast takes us along yet another journey that shows us not the truth, but rather how elusive the truth can be. Unfortunately, that has been done many times already, and done much better. The point of view is muddled, the reporting tedious and repetitive, and the conclusion is deeply unsatisfying. The Serial name has failed yet again to keep its promise of offering something special to its listeners. I’m not going to fall for the Serial brand marketing trick again. I’m out.

More reviews of The Coldest Case In Laramie
Uninteresting, anticlimactic, and presented in a monotone. There are so many better true crime podcasts out there. Don’t waste your time with this one.

Binged all 8 episodes in one day (thank God I had the day off!!!) Great investigation, great reporting, highly recommended!

I liked this. Serial podcasts are my jam and this one didn’t disappoint. Aside from telling a good story, there’s a deeper theme of checking our own bias, truth and how trauma effects those things.
