Memory vs Reality
I’m reading quite a few early reviews that hammer Kim’s impressions of Laramie in the first episode. Also, it seems those reviewers bailed early without listening to all episodes. Like Kim I also went to Laramie High School in the early 80’s ( again, the early 80’s ). When Kim initially frames her experience and impressions of Laramie it is from the perspective of a teenager attending LHS then. Listeners who came to Laramie as college freshman and experienced Laramie through the lens of college life have, for the most part, a completely different experience of Laramie. Also, if you listen to the complete podcast you’ll no doubt realize that adult Kim comes to realize that maybe she was over zealous with her initial negative distillation. Just give this excellent podcast a listen. Key takeaways include two people having to reconcile their memories of the events after they review their testimony and submitted evidence, the police officer’s puzzling polaroid/scratched hands memory and the jaw dropping racism guiding suspect round up and interrogation. Finally, a shoutout to Vaughn Neubauer for gifting Kim a huge data drop of official documents and compelling police audio files.

More reviews of The Coldest Case In Laramie
I just moved to Laramie in July of last year and was immediately struck by its beauty and friendly people. The Laramie Kim describes in the opening episode is unrecognizable. Guess a lot changes in 40 years. Too bad that wasn’t acknowledged. I enjoyed the story although pretty predictable.

At least Seinfeld was funny. This goes absolutely no where.
