“The negative reviews surprised me after binging this podcast. I thought the interweaving of history and the events leading up to Tommy’s awful and tragic end was really well done.
Reading between the lines, I assumed the narrator’s representations of Tommy’s thoughts, feelings and actions are based on police reports and the boy’s own journals. The narrator may have used some conjecture in crafting the story but that didn’t detract at all.
One comment from a previous reviewer that I do agree with relates to mental illness. Given the eventual fates of Tommy’s younger brother and the subsequent actions of his aunt and father, it seems possible, even likely, that his terrible crimes could well have been a result of mental illness. Whatever the cause, it’s a very sad story.
I recommend this podcast. It’s not your typical true crime pod, but I found it really interesting and worth the listen.”
