Thoughtful and enjoyable
There are a lot of Australian Doctor Who podcasts, but this is one of the best. I suppose when you had the original series on what seemed to be an almost permanent loop every teatime on the ABC, you would be seduced by the show's quirky, cut price charms. The Doctor Who Show is a fine example of Antipodean Whovian podcasting. Whereas Flight Through Entirety is all camp, outrageous extravagance, this is a little more low key and subdued. Both presenters clearly love the show, and give an intelligent and thoughtful take on things. There is, how should I put it, a diplomatic air to the proceedings, with neither man wanting to talk down the show. But they are not afraid to be critical, even if there is always a resolute reasonableness about their criticisms (for instance, I think it's pretty clear that neither of them are huge fans of the current show runner, but they try to be fair and positive). I don't share or entirely understand their veneration of the Peter Davison (or Davo) era, and I suspect I'm a bigger fan of the Moffat era than they are, but I'm sure they wouldn’t take offence. All in all, a good listen.Read full review »
