“Like Oliver. Love Lina, who has a smiling voice. Love Paris and enjoy the podcast. Good series on each arrondissement. One critique (with love): Admittedly the 13th isn’t pretty or that tourist-friendly (e.g., I wouldn’t expect false recommendations that tourists go and spend tons of time there), but it’s a bit simplistic to say it’s a bunch of big buildings with some Chinese restaurants. It - and the very real (non-white) people living very real lives there - are a very real part of Paris. The episode on the 13th arrondissement was a missed opportunity to talk a bit about French colonial history and the immigration wave that followed (not just Chinese but, of course, also Vietnamese), and why exactly the big housing projects were built there decades ago. I get it, this isn’t a didactic podcast but rather a fun one featuring fun things to do - so even just a touch of that history to give some depth to visitors’ understanding of the town they’re traveling to, would have been great. Even Oliver and Lina wonder aloud why the architecture in the 13th is so different - would have been cool to answer that!
Thank you for reading!”
