S4E9 'Fighting Greenhushing paralysis', with Maddy Cooper 🦸‍♀️

S4E9 'Fighting Greenhushing paralysis', with Maddy Cooper 🦸‍♀️

More and more brands these days are self-censoring their Sustainability efforts, due to fear of being called out for Greenwashing.
But as today's guest Maddy Cooper explains, this "paralysis of Greenhushing" is incredibly damaging for the success and momentum of the Sustainability movement.
Since struggling with her own climate anxiety, Maddy took it upon herself to transform her career in Marketing; first by attending the University of Cambridge's Sustainability Leadership Course, then taking her former agency through B-Corp certification, before finally launching her own Sustainability Marketing practise - Flourish.
In this episode, Maddy gives a wealth of practical tips, tools, and resources to help Marketers speak with confidence about their Sustainability efforts.
As our penultimate guest of the season, Maddy chatted with James about:
😟 Her struggles with climate anxiety since the birth of her children. 🏦 The importance of prioritising the commercial case for Sustainability, in order to win shareholder buy-in.🥰 How brands like Patagonia are thriving thanks to their Sustainability focus. 🙅‍♀️ Attracting the next generation of talent; 1/3 of Gen Z applicants will reject employers with poor Sustainability credentials.💚 How Sustainability must be at the heart of every company, not just a bolt-on.... and much more! ✨
We'd highly recommend all Marketers to check out this episode - the tools and tips Maddy shares are incredibly practical and could really help transform your Sustainable Marketing efforts. Not to mention, as Maddy points out, organisations where Sustainability permeates through every area of the company unlock a great commercial advantage over their competitors 💚
About Maddy Cooper:Maddy Cooper is CEO & Founder of Flourish, a sustainability marketing change agency. Flourish partners with major brands that are investing in sustainability transformation and want to communicate their efforts, without fear of greenwashing. Maddy is also an assessor for the University of Cambridge Centre for Sustainability Leadership’s Marketing, Media and Creative programme.

S4E8 'Helping Slow Brands Reveal Their Wild Side!', with Julien Massiot 🐯

S4E8 'Helping Slow Brands Reveal Their Wild Side!', with Julien Massiot 🐯

Advertising often gets a bad rep in Sustainability circles, and that can be for good reason.
Too often, Adverting is used as a tool to manipulate people into purchases they don't need, or  to divert attention away from or 'greenwash' companies' Sustainability credentials.
This was the dilemma Julien Massiot faced many years ago, when he realised he could not separate his values from his work, and started refusing Advertising campaigns for products he disagreed with morally.
Realising he had to go it alone, Julien founded 'Wild & Slow' - a Sustainable Advertising company. Julien now brings his 15 years of experience in advertising to help Sustainable brands find their voice and spread their mission.
In one of our most entertaining episodes so far, Julien spoke to James about:
😎 Why Sustainable brands mustn't give up 'The Monopoly of Cool' to non-sustainable brands⛔ How publicly blacklisting sectors he refuses to work with has helped him build trust and win business💨 How Wild & Slow emits 1/3rd the average of the Adverting sector🥱 Removing the stigma around Sustainability brands being boring or self-righteous🤖 The importance of honesty and integrity, as we move into a future increasingly influenced by AI... and much more! ✨
Julien's story is a fantastic example of firmly placing his values and mission at the forefront of his career direction. And a great reminder we can have far more positive impact in our business than just in our personal lives. 💚
About Julien Massiot:Julien is an Advertising entrepreneur. He helps slow brands to reveal their wild side to become better than fast and furious brands, and if the founder of 'Wild & Slow' Agency.

S4E6 '4 Million Trees and beyond - planting trees and seeding hope', with Godefroy Harito 🌱

S4E6 '4 Million Trees and beyond - planting trees and seeding hope', with Godefroy Harito 🌱

For our sixth episode of Season Four we were delighted to host a vital partner to our mission here at EcoSend - Treeapp, our tree-planting powerhouse!
Since June 2023 we have entrusted Treeapp and their projects across the world with planting our clients' trees to absorb the carbon emissions of their email campaigns, reforest devastated areas, and improve the quality of life of local residents.
Treeapp operate across four continents, and already partner with brands such as The Economist, DPD, and L'Oréal.
We chose Treeapp to be our partner because of their stand-out credentials, including:
✅ Minimum 15 year contracts between landowners and local government, to ensure the trees are protected and allowed to grow.✅ Third party satellite monitoring of their planting sites, via Restor.eco, to view the sites' progress over time.✅ Planting only endemic and non-invasive species, and never planting monocultures!
But who are the people behind Treeapp, and how did the company come about?
To tell us all, we were delighted to welcome Godefroy Harito, Co-Founder of Treeapp, onto the show.
In this week's episode, Godefroy chatted with James about:
🔥 How a childhood witnessing forest-fires in Greece sowed the seeds for launching Treeapp.👣 Godefroy's journey from Fintech to Climate. 🎓 Securing accreditation from BCorp, World Economic Forum, and UN Global Compact. ⚔️ Addressing the controversy around Carbon Offsetting.🚸 Speaking to schools to encourage the next generation of change-makers.👏The dual benefits of reforestation; rebuilding local flora & fauna and providing economic opportunity through salaried work to locals. ... and much more! ✨
We loved getting to know a bit more about the story of Treeapp, and the great work they are doing across over 15 countries.
We hope you'll enjoy the episode too! 💚
About Godefroy Harito:Godefroy is the co-founder of Treeapp, a global tree planting organisation enabling individuals and organisations to plant trees globally. Having planted over 4mln trees globally, the organisation works with the likes of the Economist, Loreal and DPD delivery group to plant trees.
