Love this podcast
This podcast has brought me on adventures across many continents and time periods, introduced me to a wide cast of characters- both villainous and sympathetic, and is also a lot of fun. Matt’s style is calming and matter of fact, which is particularly appreciated over the past year. I have had many a chuckle while listening. I recommend starting with the Lewis and Clarke section and then following with Willis and Burke expedition. It’s like the what to do vs the what not to do. (Me: “Nooooooo, don’t leave the limes behind. Scurrrrvy!”) Yeah, you will learn a lot about scurvy, the importance of quince paste, the role of ship worms and other fun facts. On a more serious note, the global devastation caused by European exploration is real, and while this isn’t the podcast focus, Matt let’s the facts stand for themselves and doesn’t whitewash over it. What would have happened if Europeans had just come to trade? Who knows how cool the world would be today. Anyhow, last thing is that the episode with Cortez’ final assault on the Aztecs is riveting. He’s a major A-hole but what a strategist. Highly recommend!

Well done! Beautifully narrated and entertaining at an educational level, this has been a 1st class listen. I cannot help but admire the delivery and content, as well as the excellent writing that has gone into the detailed lives of every explorer presented. Seriously, top notch.
