Emma Meshell is a spokesperson at Young Americans for Liberty. She was drawn into activism about eight years ago when she became interested in a friend’s campaign for a seat on her local school board in Oregon. Emma is working to get people out the vote during this election season, especially focusing on local campaigns.

Even before his presidential run, Tom Steyer was an activist. In 2013, he started a national organization called NextGen Climate. It is now called NextGen America -- and it’s dedicated to helping young people take part in the political system by making it easier for them to become voters.

Jonathan Horn works in PETA’s Campaigns department and he focuses on grabbing media headlines for animals and bringing PETA’s message of total animal liberation to the streets. PETA views animal liberation and human liberation as one in the same.

Do you care about changing the way our government works or changing policy? Nivi Achanta is the founder and CEO of the Soapbox Project. It’s a website that she created with design director Malena Hansen to bridge the gap between the troubling information we see in the news and social impact. She’s going to tell us how she has taken some of her IRL activism online, into the website and an email newsletter.

Joe’s guest in this episode is Ja’Mal Green, a Black Lives Matter activist who ran for the office of mayor of Chicago. Ja’Mal was a surrogate and speaker for Bernie Sanders. He's a dad, civil rights advocate, and community organizer.

Joshua Wong is a Hong Kong student activist and politician born in 1996. Until earlier this year, he was secretary-general of the pro-democracy party Demosisto. The party used street activism to promote progressive values and demand universal voting rights.
