Wildly digressive
My problem with this podcast is that I often listen genuinely wanting to hear from the guest on the subject, but don’t get to. The interviewer makes the mistake of gaining familiarity with the work or ideas of the guest in advance, and then discusses tangents of that subject rather than allowing the guest to explore the core topic itself for the listeners. The best example of this was the recent episode, “Why We’re Disengaged at Work”. I just finished it, and for the life of me I could only maybe point to 1-2 minutes where the titular topic is explored. I realize many guests are professionals who don’t want to give the cow away for free, but every time I listen I find myself totally unable to summarize the point of the guest I just listened to. I believe this could be avoided by focusing on a few talking points or take-homes every episode, to start with.
