Good show, albeit thematically inconsistent
This show provides an interesting social commentary on the nuances of culture, courage, and identity within the Star Trek universe. A central theme of the show is value of friendship, especially when individuals are unjustly vilified by the masses in the context of “mob mentality”. However, the fact that this virtue is extolled by most episodes of the show yet viewed as expendable in others is puzzling. This thematic inconsistency is exemplified by the episode in which 48 hours of faux controversy causes two of the Trekkies to abandon the third character, thereby betraying his friendship and the magnificent Starship Enterprise they piloted together.
