I still miss this, the best literary podcast ever. I keep hoping it might be revived.

This was hands-down the best books podcast out there, and I’m so disappointed that it ended. I really hope you all revive it one day soon

I’m not sure why they’ve replaced the books podcast with this ‘innermost’ dross. I can’t believe this will garner more listeners.
Magnuspym via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 08/09/20
The old book podcast was great This new « innermost « makes no sense is uninteresting and a waste of time

Why did this wonderful podcast end? So disappointed!!!

My favorite podcast — thoughtful, amazing interviews and inspiring writers. This podcast helped me survive the 2016 election in the US because it provided a space for thoughts and literature and smart conversations — instead of yelling. Why is the podcast ending? I don’t believe it. No. Please...Read full review »

Very good, fair, a little circumspect re: criticism of authors right to the story but ultimately coming out on the side of art and the freedom of writers to tell a story. Much better podcast than many another literary podcasts. I subscribed.

I love most things the Guardian puts out. On the Books podcast the presenters are extremely knowledgeable and they get the big guests. Also, not an annoying voice in the bunch. Even the Aussie doesn’t have an Australian accent. Bless.

Wonderfully interesting, professionally filled with information, absolutely entertaining. Surprising angle to modern reading trends. Love it!

I subscribe to several Guardian podcasts and this is one of my favorite. As a US resident, and consumer of mainly US literature, I’m always excited to find good UK/international book podcasts. The Guardian Books podcast is just that

Great episode on ‘the canon’ with a good balance of voices, but a shame Howard Jacobson wasn’t challenged on his inaccurate statements regarding « O Levels » and the Literature taught in schools which were both inaccurate and full of self-righteous indignation based on these inaccuracies.

I have been listening to the books podcast for the last couple of years. Every week I wait with anticipation for the next episode. I have learned so much from the informative presenters. I would love to learn even more about literary fiction. Has anyone got any suggestions on further podcasts or...Read full review »

This is just perfect: erudite, yet friendly and accessible. Somehow, this podcast achieves that all-too-rare goal of providing fun, useful, interesting, challening information through well-paced dialogue with non-adversarial, non-competetive hosts.

I agree with others, the giggling is almost too much to take.

I’ve been listening for years and am still addicted to this podcast. It has opened my eyes to so many new things, made me laugh out loud or try to hide tears on public transport, I’ve become the apex book recommender among friends and family and have a reading list to last until kingdom come....Read full review »

Wonderful to have the opportunity to listen to presentations and reviews but the journalists are talking too fast and slurred. Sorry to say! Lena Olsson

I quite enjoyed the book discussions on this podcast when there was only one presenter interviewing the author. Now that there are two presenters they spend too much time chatting and giggling to the detriment of providing information about the books.
Begdugan via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 02/01/18
Fascinatingly diverse range of books discussed, great clips from live events and engaging presenters.

I really enjoy the podcast, but it does come off as being a little pretentious at times, in that it doesn't reflect the everyday reading habits of the vast majority of listeners to the podcast. Comes off a little high brow at times.Read full review »

Consistently intelligent conversations about & with contemporary English language authors. Great way to stay up to date with the latest in the literary world!

I enjoyed these episodes with Richard E Grant very much - he got the balance right. But there was one with Bill Bryson and John Mullan, who ruined it. He's a no mark academic (those who can't do teach etc), who thinks he's funny and clever and is painfully not, and squandered a lovely...Read full review »

I listen to a lot of books podcasts, but this is the first one I turn to when my downloads are updated. Claire Armitstead is a wonderful host (which is not a given on a books podcast!) and the reporting is always relevant, diverse, well-balanced and entertaining. I stopped listening to these excellent podcasts and short stories as the intrusive and irrelevant music drove me potty. Such a pity somebody thought this necessary.

I always enjoy listening to the Guardian Books podcast. But for heaven's sakes, get rid of the audio "leaders" that now begin every episode. The recent episode on Latin American poetry, for example, was prefaced by two or three minutes of random sounds that included newsreaders...Read full review »

Why
Why is it not possible to get older podcasts here? It is only possible to do on the web page, and there you can only load on per page, its idiotic!

Like Guys, how come its saturday and Wednesday's podcast 5 is the latest one here? Its not just the Guardian books app, but i've suscribed to a few others - and set them to check for new epsiodes every day - but they never seem to download by themselves? What a shame !Read full review »

So, what can I say? You know it'll be good. This is one of the better literature podcasts, ranking with the (NYT)Book Review and Books on the Nightstand. A recommender.Read full review »
