As a teenager interested in politics and economics I think the guardian is absolutely amazing I love this kind of content you all definitely got a new follower.

I think the current format is spot on. Harris is an engaging host and there is no one more plugged in to Westminster than Crerar. The real revelation is Kiran Stacey who is informative , nicely opinionated and always offers a fresh view. Please don’t muck around with it now.

Getting Pippa Crerar to the Guardian is the equivalent of Man City signing Haarland . First Partygate and now Gamblegate. Back of the net!

The Podcast of The Guardian of whom occasion listen to its ‘Today In Focus’ daily podcast, the papers opinion, political cutlural and media stories. Aware of this podcast when was presented by figures of its editors and correspondents. But with John Harris as host a well meaning nice enough...Read full review »

The Guardian has a great political team and I’ve really welcomed the new Westminster Politics Weekly podcast with Pippa Crerar and Kiran Stacey. However the volume is so variable listening can become a hassle instead of a pleasure. I have just played the latest episode on the first leaders debate...Read full review »

Always enjoy the podcast and John’s style. The interview with the asylum seeker was very poignant, considering what he’d gone through, his hopes, his age. However, a question… you said he’d left his home country of Kurdistan. (I checked the script as well in case I’d misheard Kyrgyzstan.)...Read full review »

John you’d do much better by shutting up for a minute and listening.

This is a very insightful podcast with good insight into UK politics. One thing that tarnishes this is the poor production. Frequently when interviewing members of the public the sound is so low volume that even with the volume quite high I struggle to hear them especially when driving. This is...Read full review »

As much as I do find some of the conversations interesting, I preferred the previous format a few years ago with Jess Elgot and/or Heather Stewart as hosts. John Harris interrupts all the time. The previous hosts had the right balance of giving their views without taking over or shutting down...Read full review »

John shush and let people finish their arguments - it’s not entertaining, it’s infuriating and you are wrong sometines.

Meh
I hate to say it but a new host is needed. Too left wing, to adversarial and quite miserable. I debate whether it’s worth listening to this every time now.
Niky_Noodles via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 04/18/24
Often good subject matters and interesting guests but the host (John Harris) does most of the talking and interrupts the guests whenever they say something he doesn’t agree with.

The interview with Daniel Levy was very good but especially your last question when you asked Daniel how he was feeling. That showed real human empathy which is all too rare in political interviews, let alone politics more generally. It must be especially difficult for Daniel as an Israeli able...Read full review »

This is the only podcast I always listen to every week. No idea why I find it so enjoyable and interesting. Perhaps because I still cling to a Fabian socialist approach? Or in some ways maybe then tensions of 21st Century democracies are so clearly seen in Britain. Anyway it is very good

This media fixation with treating people like David Gauke and Gavin Williamson as independent analysts has to stop. The space for new political ideas has become so narrow in the last 14 years that the criteria to judge the performance of the government is overwhelmingly determined by rightwing...Read full review »

Really helpful episode on 22nd Feb explaining the chaos in the House of Commons last night - thanks for breaking it down!

Weekly podcast with John Harris that doesn't spread itself too thinly chasing the daily agenda. Great instance of this with the recent episode's deep dive and helpful explainer around the recent Parliament Gaza ceasefire debate.Read full review »

John Harris is more of a columnist than a journalist and it shows. I am growing tired of having to hear his views dominate every discussion. This is supposed to be the Guardian, and not the John Harris show

That was a much better episode with Aletha Adu and Polly Toynbee getting good airtime. I like John Harris a lot and it’s better when he lets the others have space to develop arguments and doesn’t interrupt them as much. I have adhd so can’t help interrupting so I do know how hard it is :)

Sorry, I find John Harris too dominant. Recent review of the year and looking towards 2024, he kept interrupting two of the best/most influential (female) journalists. I appreciate it was supposed to be a relaxed chat but irritating to listen to. Pippa Crerar is great.

I used to look forward to this podcast every week and usually really enjoyed the informed discussion and lively debate. Rafael Behr, Pippa Crerar and David Gauke being examples of erudite, informed and interesting contributors (but please don’t invite Zoe Williams back, too muddle headed)....Read full review »

I enjoy Politics Weekly much more with Gabby Hinscliff or an alternative to John Harris. I find John quite difficult to listen to as his views permeate the whole topic much more aggressively than with other hosts. The break from his presenting over the last few weeks is most welcome.

Another brilliant episode, with thoughtful and nuanced insight into the terrible tragedy. It is helpful to understand the political ramifications so we can all live in a safer and happier world. Brilliant stuff.

Could I suggest that whoever produces or edits this podcast sits down with a stopwatch and listens to Keir Starmer’s Labour. John Harris dominated the discussion and interrupted others at will. He gave the expression that the main purpose of the Labour Party should be to make him (a comfortably...Read full review »

It hasn’t been as good since John Harris became the presenter. I can certainly imagine a good podcast series from him, but perhaps not in this format. That said, I still do listen every week and the contributors are always high quality.

Podcast has gone backwards a little. If I want vox pops, I’ll talk to neighbours and friends. The guardian can bring in experts and columnists but this podcast spends too much time asking random folk their opinions. Leave it to question time. I saw this as someone who likes the host otherwise

33 yr disillusioned with modern day life and politics, I certainly appreciate this podcast to give me an overview of wider landscape of current politics. I think John is a class host, he’s bullish without being a total C. Reading some of the 1 star reviews can only be as I assume the podcast...Read full review »

Terrible sound quality and audio editing. Do the producers even listen to the episodes before publishing them? Episodes have audio bits in them that are clearly not meant for publication.

This show seems be driven by individuals with left wing agendas and woke motivations. Interesting views from individuals with an agenda

The recent episode about labour factions and the barring of candidates was great. John H always asks the good questions in a pleasant way. It is a highlight of my week.
jedwards0289 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 06/11/23
This is some of the worst, journalism and commentary you will see. The information is intentionally portrayed in a certain light e.g. K Starmer has stopped lots of left-wing candidates from running such as former leader, Jeremy Corbyn. It doesn’t go into the reasons why he was stopped, it just...Read full review »

Absolutely incredible that the first podcast after the local elections would have not one mention of the Green Party - who gain 241 council seats and now run a local authority. Complete blind spot for Westminster journalists

Week after week, this podcast delivers a concise, intelligent analysis of UK issues. The recent NHS pod with reps from the nurses unions rejecting the Tory government proposals was excellent.
