“Racism and Reagan. That pretty much sums up everything he talks about. Conservatives are all racists, and everything wrong with America today is the fault of Ronald Reagan. You will hear that over and over and over again. Every. Single. Show.
If you’re a progressive who just wants your priors “confirmed”, this is the podcast for you. I say “confirmed” because Thom just gaslights you. He says things he, and progressives, want to be true, but usually aren’t. For example, in Ep. #1471 at the 26:19 mark Thom claims “the majority of Americans who voted for a member of the House of Representatives in 2022 voted for the Democrat”. That’s untrue. Republicans received millions more votes than did the Democrats. For someone who makes his living as a political commentator he has to know that isn’t true, but he so wants it to be true he just lies and tells his audience it is true. He will also make up quotes from conservatives and then mumble “…or words to the effect.” (In other words, “they didn’t really say that, but this is what I want them to have said.”) What’s scary is the number of callers to his show who tell him they “learn so much from him”.
And speaking of callers, Thom has the same callers on all the time. Morris from Long Beach, Kenyatta, Jessica from Chicago, Paul from Minnesota, Dave, Chaz … the list goes on. They’re either paid contributors or Thom’s audience is so small that the same handful of callers can easily get through.
What’s especially funny is when a thoughtful conservative gets on the air and Thom has no answer for them. He will stammer for a bit, then give his condescending sigh before hanging up on them.
If you’re a conservative wanting to learn rational arguments for what the “other side” thinks, you won’t find that here. You’ll learn what the far-left thinks (spoiler alert: you’re a racist), but there’s no good faith arguments to learn from. Which is unfortunate because as much as Thom decries it, he is a contributor to our worsening political climate. His show is nothing more than a left wing echo chamber where progressives can go to feel morally superior to their fellow Americans. If that’s what you want, give Thom a listen. If you want rational arguments (or justifications), you’ll need to look elsewhere.”
