Best Source for Audiophile Commentary
I look forward to listening to the new podcast every week. Darren and Duncan know their stuff, and the conversational aspect of the podcast is great. The listener questions are awesome, as are a lot of the album recommendations. Some will not like it, as it is unedited and usually spans 2 hours or more. I’ve shared the podcast with a few friends, almost all of who gave up after one episode. Also, a lot of the physics and electrical engineering goes way over my head, as I suspect it does for most listeners, but it’s cool be aware of how deep the hobby goes. I consider myself somewhere between a beginner and intermediate audiophile. This podcast is probably not for the beginner audiophile. It’s for the real nerds only. Despite these two guys being very knowledgeable and having a ton of experience, it’s still just two guys sharing their opinions about a field / hobby that is a highly subjective in nature. If you are into Dunlavy speakers, fancy power cables, cable lifting, endless tweaks, DIY, REL subs, and expensive new gear, you will love this podcast. It’s also just a great way to begin to unpack the infinitely complex world that is audio. It’s kind of hilarious how much they dislike horn loudspeakers. More detailed show notes would be awesome, because the episodes are very long and a lot of them touch on the same topics, so it’s near impossible to go back to find a specific brand/model/tip without spending hours re-listening. Or just notes added to the website. So far the only guest has been Chris Brunhaver at PS Audio. More guests would be cool too. My favorite episodes are just Darren and Duncan though. Overall this podcast is a 5/5 for me. No amount of cruising forums or YouTube videos can beat this wealth of knowledge.

Despite the bro-y vibe, this is my audio-gear podcast of choice. I’ve learned a lot more than I ever expected just from listening to their full archive. Their regular music recommendations are also worlds better than most other similar podcasts or YouTube channels.
