Good but not for all...
PROS: a well produced, thoughtful and interesting podcast with nary a “like” or “um” disfluency or an ounce of vocal fry (well done to Dolly and Pandora! Finally a podcast where the hosts have excellent elocution!). Whilst the author specials aren’t my personal fave, I can appreciate their inclusion and both hosts’ dedication to reading a wide variety of books, articles, etc. Finally, I usually enjoy their banter, especially Dolly who seems like an absolute delight as well as an empathetic and highly intelligent host. CONS: this constructive criticism may rankle a few fans (ironic as the podcast exists to discuss, rate, and debate various media outlets and news topics), but I find Pandora a bit hard to take at times. I don’t need her to be likeable to respect her (and I do respect her), but the constant interruptions (although it does seem to be getting better), the failure to authentically examine or admit to her myriad of privilege, and her lack of vulnerability and/or empathy can be difficult to listen to, especially for someone like me, a minority woman. Such is her prerogative, but those sensitive to being condescended may want to give it a skip. CONCLUSION: overall a quality podcast, and thanks to both for putting your work out there. It can’t be easy, and I recognise a lot of good as well as potential for growth and improvement.
