John is great. But he's gone.
So first, yes, John's vocal mannerisms are tough to fight through. He obviously is speaking off the cuff or just from some notes and the vast number of erm's, uhh's, annd other vocal skips are hard to ignore. And the background noise to be all to prominent at times. Mr. Allen gives great insights into the religious and secular world of Italy. Despite the complaints of people for saying “um” (I mean he is knew to it and its hard), its usually almost perfect. My only complaint is that it is bi-weekly (Sorry John).
