Although the podcast was often hard to listen to due to the content in regard to how detainees were treated by our government at Guantanamo, the story was so well told and Latif did a great job of humanizing The Other Latif who spent too many years locked up! I would recommend this storytelling...Read full review »

5 stars is insufficient.

The reporter/host constantly punctuates his speech with “Wow!” and “Woah!” which just gets really annoying and non-professional sounding after a while; it’s a shame because it’s a really good story

It’s been probably a year or more since I binged this on a (very long) roadtrip thru the American West. I love investigative podcasts and I listen to a lot of them, but this is the one I always point to as the pinnacle of the form. Better, even, than (the very excellent) Serial. Latif, you are an...Read full review »

This is a fantastic podcast. But we want to know what happened after July, 2021!

RadioLab itself got me into podcasts, years ago. I love that they’ve branched out to produce something as captivating as The Other Latif, which begs for us to ask ourselves .. Do the excuses of war excuse us of our own actions and inactions?

This podcast made me weep! The final episode is so worth listening to the entire mini series. This is the most beautifully and poetically written podcast I’ve come across in a while.

A demonstration of the complicated lives of the poor and desperate outside of North America and Europe. And a testament to their vulnerability to geopolitics and the whims of the powerful.

This is an incredible dive into the infamous Guantanamo Bay detention center. I am so proud of Radio Lab and all their hard work at putting this compelling documentary out about what can happen when information lines are crossed. As an American, it is hard to listen to the injustice that occurs...Read full review »

While I was curious about the topic, I wasn’t sure I’d want to listen to all the episodes… I was entranced! So well researched. Kudos to Latif and his team, as well as the attorneys who persevered. May real justice prevail and close Guantanamo down.

What a blessing this team was in undertaking the research to bring this story forward. I shed tears often while listening, sometimes getting an inside look into our government can be heartbreaking.

This is a well researched, very good podcast however I’m really stunned at how the journalist keeps defending a man who trained at a terrorist camp and went to Afghanistan to fight. He wasn’t on vacation at a training camp and please don’t insult listeners by suggesting that.
alhann via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 06/12/21
You must certainly listen to this podcast for the story. While the narrator’s incessant self-reference and framing of the story through the lens of his own life proves annoying and results in some second-hand embarrassment, you will learn something from the first Latif if only you persevere.

An excellent and riveting story that is told with humanity, integrity, and an equal balance of facts and interpretation.

Wish the senior person who wouldn’t take the case to Obama had enough guts to publicly own their decision. Anyway, this is a riveting tale that stains the USA top to bottom.

It was so good, so heart wrenching. This podcast really sheds a light on the side we never hear. On the humanity of Abdul Nasser Latif. It really left my heart so heavy. Thank you for this eye opening podcast

I don’t care for the sound effects at the intro but this podcast was amazing. You really added the humanity back into Abdel Latif Nasser. Good on you for caring when few others did. I hope he ca. Be released soon

Listened to all the episodes in 2 days. Hope there will be an update and a change of fate for the ‘other Latif’. Besides learning his story you will also discover many things about the making and what is happening in Guantanamo. Worth your time.

Thank you so much for bringing Latif’s story to the world. I am so saddened and hope with a left president he will one day be released. Also thought provoking mention of China’s treatment of the Uighurs and how Guantanamo almost made this an acceptable decision for them. A decision made out of...Read full review »

It was a gripping story-telling and the narrative was quite depressing but showed interesting contradictories of the United States. It leaves you appreciating the freedom we have being free humans, but it also leaves you questioning the white american systems dominant in global security.

Recommended in the UK by the Guardian Newspaper, this podcast certainly lived up to expectations. Incredibly well researched and beautifully delivered, this series had everything you would want in a non fiction documentary.

Maybe if we’re doing serious social justice investigative journalism, let’s widen the applicant pool beyond “guys who have the same name”? My guy, he doesn’t even pronounce it the same as you. I feel like all the interview subjects must have been rolling their eyes at this clown. He sounded drunk...Read full review »

In today’s world of sensationalistic news coverage and questionable moral politics, this podcast provides an excellent example of what true journalism should be. This podcast is both riveting and made me think about the morality of incarceration in a way I haven’t in a long time. Not just the power of state to lock people away, but how this power we take for granted needs to be so delicately executed to not wreck havoc in people and family’s lives. Or if...Read full review »

You learn more about Abdul Latif (obviously) but also about Osama bin Laden and IS, so it is interesting and you learn something. But also an enjoyable story to listen and that’s what a good podcast is all about.

I do wanted to like this, but it fell WAY short. Investigative or bio-driven journalism weak with inquiry, afraid to ask basic questions about this man’s suspect - at best- past. 👎🏼 I so badly wanted a 2020 nod to the greatness of the Caliphate podcast, sadly this is not even in the same...Read full review »
