Lady Computers
Loved the podcast, but they got a bit lost talking about "lady computers". Ellen and her guest didn't realize that back in the days before computing machines people (both men and women) who did computing were called "computers" (like how people did baking were called 'bakers', or who did welding were called 'welders'). Only after we invented machines (initially called 'electronic computers; or 'digital computers') to do it did the meaning shift from the people to the devices. It had nothing to do with "dehumanizing" women in the 1960's workplace. Otherwise, a fascinating podcast. Looking forward to the rest of the season.Read full review »
