Changed my life, broke my heart
On average, overall, the show was both fearfully and wonderfully made. The writing and acting are often superb, and serviceable at worst. For much of the series, the approach taken towards horror is refreshing and subversive in a way I’ve never seen before. I loved it more than I can say, and wish that meant I could unreservedly recommend the experience. In a Patreon-based economy, the creators are obviously incentivized to have people join their “community”, which has been a cesspit of abuse since at least 2018. Avoid it at all costs; while there have been some corporate muttering about doing better, there is no real change or awareness of the issues that would actually need remedies forthcoming. The denouement of the show is unfortunately marred with signs of conceding to that critical mass of abusers; the series falters in season 5 and, rather than finding its feet again, at the last moment throws everything remarkable about itself out the window in an act of clumsy self-defense. The extent to which this dissonance pollutes the rest of the series for you will presumably vary. I value the series itself enough for that to be an effective counterbalance to the hazards above, which is difficult to convey. I can’t recommend doing what I did, but can’t bring myself to regret either. When it was good, it was very, very good, though it’s difficult for me to describe why without flinching. It means more to me than I can say, but its creators and audience are unfortunately to blame for that silence. Give it a try; do not give it your heart.

I love this podcast. The narrative style is very good and the stories are creepy and the readers are very talented voice actors. Creative and creepy, I look forward to this one. When a new one comes down, don't ask me for anything because I'm listening to this!Read full review »
